About The Artist
I have always been aware of beautiful surroundings. My youth was spent in Eufaula, Alabama, a charming small town renowned for its historic homes and tree lined streets. My earliest and fondest childhood memories centered on time spent in my grandparents' greenhouses, totally absorbing the colors, and the shapes of leaves and flowers. I grew to love the smells of the greenhouse and the satisfaction of bringing forth plants from seeds and cuttings. Many hours were spent arranging the beautiful fruits and flowers into vases and urns for weddings and holidays. My interest in the arts led to a position at the museum, in Columbus, Georgia. Eventually I opened my own studio , there I was commissioned to produce custom tiles for homes though out the south. In the mid 1980's, my fascination with the clay I was using led me to explore sculpting for the first time. This challenging medium enabled me to bring my passion for the garden to the door of my studio. There I was delighted to discover that porcelain provided a wonderful opportunity to interpret botanicals in the three dimensional. I then embarked on enthusiastic experiments into the finer nuances of working with this medium. Many of my earlier pieces found their way into the homes of friends and family. The overwhelming response and support that I received from this close circle encouraged and inspired me to continue this pursuit which has resulted in the collection that is available today.
